Our history

Humble beginnings, guided by God
We began as the Adlington Mission Church in 1892, built by and for the local community as a simple tin tabernacle. Costing £150, the corrugated iron building became a much-loved place of worship. While the building has changed over time, our commitment to faith and community has stayed the same.

SUPPORT IS OUR MISSION

A Welcoming and
Supportive Community

We aim to be a place where everyone feels at home. Whether you’re exploring faith for the first time, returning after some time away, or looking for a church family to grow with, you’ll find a warm welcome here.

Under the Parish of Prestbury, St John’s fosters a warm and inclusive environment. Whether you’re new to the area or exploring faith, you’ll find a supportive community ready to welcome you.

St John’s has been part of Adlington life since 1892. Known locally as the “tin tabernacle” for its quirky metal walls and cosy wooden interior, it’s a place full of character and community memories—loved by locals for generations.

Open during fair weather months, our outdoor coffee shop isn’t just a place to grab a drink—it’s a hub of connection and care, with every cuppa helping to support the church’s ongoing mission.
