A Nativity Like No Other – And We Made the News!
Christmas is always a special time at St John’s Church, but this year, our nativity had an unexpected twist—and even caught the attention of the local newspaper! With no children…
St John’s Church is a small church with a big heart. Built in 1892, our unique corrugated iron building has stood at the heart of the community for over 130 years. Rooted in faith and rich in heritage, the Tin Tabernacle is a place where people come together for worship, connection, and support. Whether you’re a long-time local or just passing through, you’re warmly invited to be part of our story.

St John’s has been part of Adlington life since 1892. Known locally as the “tin tabernacle” for its quirky metal walls and cosy wooden interior, it’s a place full of character and community memories—loved by locals for generations.
Open during fair weather months, our outdoor coffee shop isn’t just a place to grab a drink—it’s a hub of connection and care, with every cuppa helping to support the church’s ongoing mission.
Your generous donations help support those in need—whether to The CORE Pantry in Macclesfield or directly to the church, every contribution makes a difference.
The CoRe Pantry (Upton Priory) opened in September 2020 as a member-based scheme where members pay a small weekly subscription and in return they can choose good value food from a range including chilled goods, fresh and tinned products as well as a small range of household items. Donations go directly to The CoRe Pantry (Upton Priory).
Help us preserve and grow our beloved Tin Tabernacle. Donations go toward all the essentials that keep our doors open.
